BLS CPR

  1. Unresponsive?
  2. Look for breathing  <5secs  –   Not Breathing Call a Code
  3. Carotid Pulse <10seconds
  4. Begin Chest Compressions  – 2 inches at  100/min and compression to ventilation 30:2 –  Switch every 2 minutes
  5. AED/Defibrillator Assess Cardiac Rhythm

90 percent of adult arrests are in V fib or pulseless V tach

Only thing that will help them is Shocking – Defibrillator

Placing Pads  High Right Low Lateral Left Heart Sandwich

Stand Clear Shock

Resume Chest Compressions and

Reassess Rhythm after 2 mins

Chest Compression Fraction = CCF = percentage of time spent in compression during resuscitation – Should be at least 60% and optimally 80%

Ventilation is half a squeeze of the bag = 500-600mls
